The WearOS-powered, Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 is here. This watch will undoubtedly bring extreme competition for Samsung and Google. The impressive user-friendly design of this OS along with optimized output, great battery performance, solid build quality, and all this at a handsome price has made this watch a hit in the market. So here we will check the complete statistics of this device and find out how profitable this device can be. Let’s dive into the detailed discussion.
What about its design and durability?
In a word, the design is outstanding. It has a simple and elegant look—no bulky or fancy design. Maybe most people like this type of simple design watch or it could be different. However, the watch will suit all people with thin wrists or thick wrists. It will not be too loose and will be very comfortable to wear due to its lightweight. The device weighs only 44 grams and the weight distribution is also quite good which is the main secret behind the comfortability. The watch is available in two colors, Obsidian and Sandstone, and both colors look great, giving different vibes. From Mobvoi, a variety of straps are available for purchase, which are especially useful for changing the watch’s look.
Apart from making the watch elegant, it is also sturdy. The Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 is made of the toughest 7000 series aluminum. Kind of a protective shield for this watch. The display has Corning Gorilla Anti-fingerprint Cover Glass protection and a metal bezel surrounded by the screen surface. These two protection layers will give fair protection to the screen area from scratches or any other damage. Surprisingly, it has Military Standard 810 test certifications that guarantee the strength, and safety department of this device. These military tests determine how much the device can survive in extreme temperatures or critical situations.
From that point of view, this watch will be a step ahead which ensures a place of comfort for the user. Along with these, there is the benefit of 5ATM water resistance. Every user has many concerns about water resistance. You can rest assured that there will be no water damage when you come into contact with water while swimming, showering, or anywhere else. These facilities make tech gadgets smarter and ensure maximum device safety for the user. The quality of the 24mm silicone strap is great and the texture is also very soft, so it doesn’t feel irritated even after wearing it on the wrist for a long time. Strap lock/unlock is super easy similar to many popular smartwatches.
How about the display?
Among the numerous nice features we like best is its display utilization. It is a 1.43″ dual display module device. Where the resolution is 466*466 with 326 ppi. The reason behind saying dual module display is that basically, the display works in 2 different steps. One is an AMOLED display with AOD mode and another is the Ultra-low-power display. These are not two different displays but one display is used in which 2 different modes are given priority to the point of usage and battery backup. Let’s understand this system in detail.
AMOLED:
We earn the opportunity to navigate the entire smart features and functionalities by switching to AMOLED Display mode. The display becomes so vibrant and colorful with a completely modern look. Here we get the possibility to use numerous interesting watch faces and AOD watch faces. In general, when we switch to AMOLED display mode, the device runs at its full potential with overall features and facilities. But here comes the query of battery backup. Because the battery starts draining to a high degree when various features are continuously operated. In that situation, we feel the need for the Ultra-low-power display module.
Ultra-low-power Display:
Can you remember the classic Casio watches of yesteryears? Here by default, the watch is switched in such mode. Where it acts as the main screen and displays the time, date, battery percentage, and heartbeat level. Beyond this basic information, no features are activated, which saves a lot of power. But Mobvoi has utilized this mode in a better way. You will start noticing that the backlit color of the display changes randomly in sync with the heartbeat level while in classic mode.
You can identify whether the heartbeat is increasing, decreasing, or stable during the workout from the color condition of the backlight. Suppose your heartbeat is too fast now the screen will display the red color in the background. Not having to find out the heartbeat level separately. Due to this, you understand when you need to rest when you need to continue exercising. Excellent utilization shown here by Mobvoi for which we have maximum appreciation towards them.
Would you like the OS or not?
Granting an OS depends on how well-optimized, battery-efficient, and user-friendly it is. The Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 is running on Wear OS 3. And the processor is Snapdragon® W5+ Gen 1 which is a very good and stable processor for wearable devices. Google developed this OS for their smartwatches and smartbands. You can learn more about the OS from here. The good thing is that Mobvoi has used a well-performing and balanced OS with slight customization. As we can see in the case of Android. Where different brands customize the original Android OS for their smartphones. However, we have to use the Mobvoi Health app to connect and sync this device with the smartphone.
We know that Wear OS has its own app to connect with phones. But here Mobvoi has prioritized their app. All watch settings, customization options, watch faces, etc. are available in this app. The app may seem a bit boring to you as it was to us. The reason is its old look and lack of user-friendliness. There’s a message for Mobvoi, to pay attention to this matter and make the app more user-friendly and modern through regular updates. There are several watch faces preloaded on the watch and Mobvoi Health app. Also, there is an opportunity to use many watch faces from the Play Store with the opportunity of manual customization.
Due to Google’s operating system, the smartphone has full freedom to use countless applications that can be installed from the Play Store. There is 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM so nothing to worry about storage. Because the watch is synced with the phone, it starts to display notifications of different apps. We can respond on texting-based applications like WhatsApp, Messenger, Email, etc. Even the device supports Google Keyboard. But it is not possible to comfortably type because the screen is small. Short message responses and voice-to-text replies would be a good option here. From the Mobvoi Health app, we can specify which apps will show notifications and which not.
The calling feature is also available here. Speaker and microphone quality is pretty good which seems well during calling and we did not notice much latency. We can modify modes like vibration, ring sound, and do not disturb from the same app. Through proper synchronization, we can witness every data recorded on the watch such as jogging, cardio, swimming, sleep tracking, health tracking records, etc in detail on the phone. Rotating the crown wheel to the downside will bring the quick toggles which contain the various quick action tiles. Rotating it in the opposite direction, you will find all the notifications. A single press on the crown wakes up the watch. Pressing while awake displays a list of installed applications.
There’s another clicky button next to the crown wheel, on which we can see the recently used apps with a single tap. And long press will directly open Google Wallet. Everything on the watch’s home screen we can call tiles or widgets. By swiping right and left on the screen, the tiles change one after the other infinitely. If you tap and hold on tiles the option to change and rearrange the tiles comes. Unfortunately, there is no support for Google Assistant or any other assistant. However, Mobvoi has tried hard to improve the OS here, and to a large extent, they have succeeded. There are a few upgrades still needed, anyway good job Mobvoi.
How capable is the battery?
We have talked about the Ultra-low-power Display mode and its power-saving ability in the display section. But can a feature make the battery long-lasting? Basically no, rather it depends entirely on the battery capacity, charging technology, and proper combination of hardware and software. And here this device has almost humiliated other famous smartwatches with its amazing battery backup, even the Apple Watch is on this list. The 628mAh battery is perfectly synced with the device’s overall hardware and software.
Mobvoi claims the device can provide up to 80 hours of backup. But we believe in real-life tests, where we have found that using the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 in AMOLED mode with AOD ON as well as all other features continuously the device was providing backup for about 2 to 3 days. And with the power-saving features, it was able to provide continuous backup for 5 to 6 days. Here the stability and balanced performance of Wear OS played a notable role. Well, many people find it boring to run devices in power-saving mode.
Because of the power-saving feature, we have to compromise with so many smart features which causes the user’s reluctance to operate the device. However, if the user uses the device strategically here, such as keeping the health monitoring sensors off unless necessary, and stop using any tracking features without workout, then, in that case, the user can undoubtedly get a satisfactory backup. What’s more, the watch supports fast charging. It can charge 0-65% in just 30 minutes. Fantastic, we must say.
So we can understand that Ticwatch Pro 5 has shown extraordinary charisma in the battery department.
What about the sport, health, and navigation tracking features?
Here we are getting all the necessary and well-known health tracking features like heart rate monitoring, SpO2 monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, etc. We have found that the Ticwatch Pro 5 was able to give very close results when compared with Apple, SAMSUNG Galaxy, or Google smartwatches. It is normal to have some differences, although the other smartwatches can’t give 100% accurate results. Considering the price, Ticwatch has done a great job here.
But in the case of sleep monitoring, we noticed the device could not properly monitor the small track record of sudden awakenings during deep night sleep. It is not a major issue, but Mobvoi needs attention in this case. GPS, Beidou, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS are all supported in the watch which are very important for navigation and tracking. We are also getting in-built Google Maps support due to Wear OS. In the case of navigation, we obtained correct results without any difficulty.
It can track every outdoor event very actively. Even if you don’t select an event, the device can auto-detect itself which is a great thing. In addition to this, it has a mode named ONE TAP MEASUREMENT where the device can measure 5 health metrics heart rate, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, stress level, and heart health in one click. As a result, there is no need for separate calculations for different sections. Which saves time and also plays a role in the field of battery saving. It has about 100+ popular sports modes. In addition to auto-sensing, you can also manually select specific sports modes from this list. There is no need for a separate premium subscription to use them.
